Forgive as you were forgiven
Why is forgiveness so hard?
“bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.”
Introduction
In Colossians 3, Paul describes the new life believers have in Christ, like changing into new clothes. Forgiveness is one of the garments we’re asked to put on.
The measure Paul gives is striking: we forgive others as the Lord forgave us, fully and freely.
Questions
Read Colossians 3:12–14. What else are we asked to “put on” alongside forgiveness?
What’s the difference between forgiving someone and saying what they did was okay?
How does remembering God’s forgiveness of you change how you see others?
Is there someone you need to forgive, or ask forgiveness from? You don’t have to name them.
Conclusion
Forgiveness releases us from carrying the weight of the past. We can forgive because we have been forgiven so much.
