Trust with all your heart

Discussion topic

Is it harder to trust God with big decisions or small ones?

Memory verse

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

Introduction

Proverbs was written to help people live wisely in ordinary life. In chapter 3, a father urges his child to hold on to trust in the Lord above his own cleverness.

Trusting with “all your heart” doesn’t mean switching off our minds. It means our understanding stops being the final word.

Questions

1

Read Proverbs 3:1–8. What promises are attached to trusting the Lord?

2

What does it look like to “lean on your own understanding”? Where do you notice yourself doing it?

3

Tell us about a time you trusted God before you could see how things would work out.

4

Which area of your life is hardest to hand over to God right now?

Conclusion

Trust grows with practice. Each time we choose God’s way over our own, we learn a little more that He can be relied on.

Homework

Pick one decision you’re facing this week. Pray about it before you decide, and write down what you sense God saying.
